Reader Question!
" I have a question: I have a dry scalp from this wacky weather...do you have any homemade tips or product I can buy?"
I'd be lying if I said that this came from just a reader. She is actually a friend of mine and asked me via facebook. My first reader question! Anywho, a question is a fricking question, so I had better go ahead and give an answer.
It is quite normal to get flakey in the change of seasons. Remember Ally Sheedy on the Breakfast Club when she shook her dandruff "snowflakes" on her art?
Yeah, that grossed me out too. Here's how to prevent it/get rid of it:
1) If you are headed to a store, Neutrogena T-Gel is an awesome over-the counter shampoo. Use it every day until flakes are gone, then use once a week as preventative maintenance.
2) If you prefer professional products or have an appointment at the salon anyways, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil shampoo has been around for a long time and is awesome at getting rid of flakes. Use every time you shampoo until flakes are gone, then use once weekly for preventative maintenance.
3) If you go to a GNC or a natural food store, pure Tea Tree Oil is an amazing remedy. Apply to affected area on scalp, leave on for a few minutes, then shampoo.
4)If you are hard up for cash or stuck in the house, here is an old barber remedy for dandruff: Crush up two aspirin and mix with your normal amount of shampoo and apply and shampoo as usual.
Remember with all remedies, FRICTION is key. Fucking scrub that shit. You want to lift and remove all the dry scalp. If you have trouble scrubbing, massage a vent brush with rubber tips on the bristles in circles on your scalp. If none of these things I've listed work for you, I suggest seeing your Primary Care Physician. You could have a more serious scalp condition like psoriasis.
