In the near future, there might be more "mind reading" going on, now that University of Texas, Tufts University, plus researchers in India have all been working on a Near-Infrared Spectroscopy "hair brush". In mortal terms, an instrument that asseses brain functions presently used for medical purposes. Before the brush, it was just a head piece that patients wore. Researchers were having difficulty with it reading through people's hair but now the've made it into a brush, it is much more efficient. It is called "brush optrode."
In the future, this brush may have many a purpose, since it can measure changes in brain chemistry due to moods, thoughts, etc.. Badass. When they're available to us lesser-learned-folk, I'm going to get my filthy paws on one. Not to use on my regular clients, but just to see what mind-readie-readie is going on when a madame-cleo-wannbe is in my chair. It's only fair. I realize it's probably about as consequential as taking a picture of someone taking a picture of you. Hey, whatever toasts my bagel.
